ED Information Systems (EDIS)
While emergency departments share a common challenge today of serving a growing patient volume with higher acuity levels and doing so as safely and efficiently as possible, every department has their own unique workflow and communication needs to support. When an emergency department information system is introduced into this environment it needs to have the scalability, modularity and configurability to be tailored to each department’s needs. In over one million patient encounters, the Amelior ED® system has provided a high degree of flexibility in how it can be integrated into your department’s workflow.
Scalable Modular Design
Patient Care Technology Systems' (PCTS) comprehensive emergency department information system, Amelior ED, is comprised of many individual modules which can be implemented together or in stages of deployments. Departments can therefore easily scale their implementation to match the scope and pace of workflow automation that they require.
When the complete system is implemented, a comprehensive Amelior ED electronic medical record is produced reflecting the entire continuum of care from patient arrival to disposition. Interfaces to ancillary departments such as laboratory and radiology integrate orders and results within the medical record. Patient information can be sent to a clinical data repository for inpatient reference. And using an interface between the Amelior ED system and a hospital's bed management system, admissions from the ED can be streamlined through electronic bed requests, acknowledgements and fulfillments. This can reduce the time a patient is boarded within the department thereby increasing a department's effective capacity. If a staged rollout of patient tracking and charting modules better fits a department's needs, a department can begin with manual or automatic tracking. PCTS provides paper charting templates for emergency nurses and physicians which can be paired with the automatic tracking system until computer-based charting is implemented.
Configurable
PCTS understands that emergency physicians do not want to practice 'cookbook medicine' as dictated by the limitations of a rigid electronic medical record design. Working within a templated narrative-based chart presentation which has been designed to flow like dictation, users have multiple options to quickly import content and document the care provided. A rich database of clinical intelligence for diagnoses, treatment plans and medications provides an extensive scope of configuration opportunities for user and department-level protocols.
Web-Based Convenience
With our upcoming version, the Amelior ED system will convert from its original client-server platform to a completely web-based architecture. Like the Amelior patient and asset tracking applications, the web design offers many advantages including functional expandability, rapid development and deployment, enterprise-wide accessibility, lower total cost of ownership and simplicity of use.
