Albert Einstein Healthcare Network Selects Amelior ED Online Charting System by Patient Care Technology Systems

Einstein Will Be the First Level 1 Trauma Center in Nation to Integrate Amelior Passive Patient Tracking and Online Charting

June 7, 2005 (Aliso Viejo, CA) – Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a medical software subsidiary of Consulier Engineering (NASDAQ: CSLR), announced today that Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia has selected the Amelior ED(tm) patient care system for use in the network’s three Emergency Departments (EDs). The Amelior ED system provides electronic charting for nurses and physicians, integrated computerized provider order entry and integrated clinical decision support at point-of-care. Einstein’s largest ED, which accommodates over 63,000 patient visits yearly and includes a level 1 trauma center, will integrate its existing Amelior EDTracker passive tracking system with the new charting system to provide a wealth of clinical information to caregivers on-demand, at patients’ bedsides.

"After a multi-year search for the best ED information system, we determined that the Amelior ED patient care system met our clinical needs most closely,” said Carl Chudnofsky, MD, Einstein’s Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. "We have been using the Amelior EDTracker passive patient tracking system, also developed by PCTS, for almost two years now. This system allows us to track every patient's location and care status with no data entry required by staff. We are now ready to integrate the passive tracking system with an intelligent charting system to further enhance information management at point-of-care."

"We are very excited about the opportunity to build upon our existing relationship with Einstein,” said Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS. “The significant improvement in patient flow that Albert Einstein has achieved to date reflects the importance of a product like Amelior EDTracker. By adding the Amelior ED patient care system, Einstein will have the opportunity to realize the patient safety improvement and return on investment of our full ED IT solution."

How Passive Patient Tracking Helped Einstein’s ED Manage Increased Patient Volumes While Reducing Wait Times and Hours Spent on Divert

In 2003, Einstein’s main Emergency Department was one of the first emergency care facilities to implement a passive system for tracking patients, staff and medical equipment. The passive tracking system, so-called for the lack of active, manual data entry by department staff, collects the real-time status of patients, staff and medical equipment as they move through the department. Unlike traditional tracking systems that require manual data entry, and as a result can be difficult to keep up-to-date, passive tracking uses wireless signals sent by badges worn by patients and staff and attached to equipment. These signals are read by sensors located throughout the Emergency Department. Software developed by PCTS applies rules-based intelligence to instantly communicate the current stage of care for every patient. The system displays the information in convenient map views that match the floor plan of the facility. The software works with all passive tracking technologies including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and ultra-wide band. To date, PCTS has implemented more passive patient tracking software in U.S. Emergency Departments than any other software provider.

“Before you can improve key operational metrics such as patient wait times and time to disposition, you must first be able to measure them,” says Dr. Chudnofsky. “The passive tracking system provides quick access to real-time patient volume and flow information. This technology played an important role in the expansion and reorganization of our main Emergency Department. As the result of these efforts over several years, patient volume has increased nearly 20 percent and patient satisfaction has risen dramatically. The time we spent on divert, sending non-critical patients to other hospitals because our ED is filled to capacity, has dropped nearly 90 percent.”
