Formed in 2003 as a non-profit research and educational foundation, Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation’s vision is to be the definitive source for patient safety information and resources in the practice of emergency medicine. The foundation offers services to emergency departments, risk managers, patients and patient safety advocates. EMPSF’s Patient Safety Program is a powerful tool that provides ED groups with an extensive on-site review and analysis of their current practices. Additional services include an online emergency medicine resource directory, the development and dissemination of information from studies in the field of emergency medicine, data warehousing for statistical data on emergency medicine liability claims and educational programs for emergency clinicians. EMPSF has applied for its 501 (c) 3 status and operates as a non-profit organization.

The federal government has recently adopted HL7 messaging standards as part of the President’s eGov initiatives.

Modeled upon the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and similar public/private organizations, NFTC will serve as a resource to trauma centers and systems to foster stable, high-quality, cost-effective trauma care throughout the nation, and encourage innovation and excellence.
